The husband and I just returned from a nice long weekend in Charleston, SC.  We got married down there and haven’t been back since.  The weather wasn’t exactly what we were hoping for, although it was beautiful on our last day.

Besides reading a lot (and yes, I read some trashy romance novels while on vacation), we ate a LOT of fabulous food (more reviews on my other blog), saw a movie, and went to the aquarium for the first time ever.  Well, the first time being at that aquarium.

It was a great break from reality, especially after the crazy fall we have both had.  Now, I’m terrified that Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away, and of course we are hosting!

I am trying desperately to come up with a great tablescape to go with my table, and I’ll be sharing that once it starts to come together.  I had a bit of a failed trip to both Christmas Tree Shops and Home Goods, but there are other options out there for me.

Eek!

I just booked our tickets to one of our favorite places in the world (I happen to have lots of them) – Charleston, SC!  We’ll be heading there in November for a loooong weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited.  We love Charleston so much that we even got married there, even though neither of us is from the area.  And we haven’t been back since the wedding (single tear).  Normally we would take our summer vacation down there, but after all the goings on of this summer, we took a staycation instead, and I was depressed for days about it.

But now I have something to look forward to, especially since my fall at work is going to be crazy!

I’ve never been in the fall, and I really can’t wait!

Weekend in the “Country”

This past weekend my husband and I started our staycation, and went on a weekend “getaway” to my parents house in rural CT.  My sister in law, her husband, and nephew came along for the ride.

One of the things we did that I haven’t done in AGES is go blueberry picking.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather, it was in the mid 70’s and sunny.  Not your typical August Saturday, but I’ll take it.  Unfortunately the next day was not so nice, but we still had a great time.

We picked a TON of blueberries, and made blueberry crisp (or crumble, however you want to call it), and blueberry pancakes.  Naturally I don’t actually eat blueberries, but I do like to pick them.

In addition to blueberries, we grilled a ton, sat outside when it was nice, and went out for local ice cream.  My nephew was a great photo subject, we (my husband and I were both photographers for the weekend) were able to get some really cute shots of him.

Being not yet two, he was naturally in heaven.  Trucks, tractors, cats, dogs, blueberry picking, running outside, ice cream, you name it.  Who knew watching my brother wash his truck is so exciting?

It was a great start to my staycation, and it’s been going so well thus far!  I’m totally not going to want to go back to work next week…
